Do You Know Her? With Lauren "Scrappy" Rawle
This interview is conducted online and then used for the Do you know her posts that are on our Instagram and YouTube. Due to space constraints the written portion has to be altered. Below is the full transcript of our chat where you can get to know the fighters even deeper and read their full response.
Helian Designs: When and where did you start your journey in combat sports?
Lauren: I started training at 29. I started with my coach in his garage.
Helian Designs: How do you handle setback or losses, both in the ring and in life, and use them as opportunity for growth?
Lauren: I have been a fighter long before I started training. On top of being a broke struggling tattoo artist, in a field dominated by old school tattooers who were not fans of women getting into the game. I was living in a very rough and toxic environment. Having so many things going against me, I wanted to work harder and be as successful as possible. Keeping a long story short, a lot of tough years when I was younger made me realize a loss in the ring isn't the hardest thing I've been through. Just like with everything else in life, the best thing I can do is pick myself up, come back and be stronger than I was before. The real way you win is by showing them nothing can keep you down.
Helian Designs: What is your favorite/least favorite part of being a fighter?
Lauren: Fighting has truly shaped me into the best version of myself, physically and mentally. But as soon as my fight is over, I splurge, and my diet takes a major dive. It's a huge difference in and out of fight camp and I need to find a happy medium (I'm working on it!). I just thought I'd share in case anyone else struggles with it, they are not alone!
Helian Designs: what are a few interesting facts about yourself?
Lauren: I own a tattoo shop, and co own a skate shop with my husband. I have tattooed myself so many times I've lost count. I'm currently working on my left sleeve. I have 7 animals. If an animal needs a home, I have a hard time saying no!
